Cottony Cushion Scale

What insect is this and how does this affect?

Icerya purchasi (common name: cottony cushion scale) is a scale insect that feeds on more than 80 families of woody plants.

This scale infests twigs and branches.

What can we do organically to manage it ?

Neem oil emulsion brushing or wetting with soap nut water and spraying Verticillum as said above will work.

This pest like mealy bugs have water repellent coat.

So a wetting agent is needed to create access to its body.
